About LA Law Institute
LA Law Institute (LALI) is a California registered unaccredited correspondence law school, registered with the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California. LALI is not approved by the American Bar Association.
We are not trying to recreate a traditional law school on a computer. We are building something intentionally different: rigorous legal education, real faculty-student relationships, thoughtful use of technology, and a professional community that lasts beyond graduation.
We show the respect we expect.

- Hold two office hours a week, at times that work for you and your students
- Prepare for each lecture using LALI materials
- Grade the midterm and final exam using LALI rubrics
- Submit grades by the posted deadline
- Answer student questions by email or through our learning platform within two business days
What LALI handles
- Curriculum, syllabus, and course setup
- Readings, assignments, and quizzes
- Scheduling and administration
- Routine student support
- Student records and compliance
Course development, advising, or extra grading are not part of the base teaching role. When we need them, we agree on them in advance and pay for them separately.
Who we are looking for
We are hiring teachers. We want people who love learning the law, explaining it, questioning it, and helping students reach the moment of "Oh. Now I get it." A long history of legal practice is not required.
Required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- Strong command of the subject you want to teach
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, training, or academic support
- Clear written and spoken communication
- Reliable computer and internet for live online teaching
Preferred
- Bar admission, especially California
- Experience studying or teaching in an online or correspondence law program
- Online teaching or bar prep experience
- Comfort with Zoom, PowerPoint, and learning platforms
- Experience working with adult and nontraditional learners
Graduates of online and correspondence law programs bring real insight into what it takes to learn law from the other side of the screen. That experience is valued here.
No teaching experience yet? We also hire graders and teaching assistants, with training toward teaching.
Compensation
Compensation is based on course load and experience. This part-time position does not include benefits.
